- Axel: An Axel is the only jump that the
- skater launches going forward. The skater
- leaps into the air off one foot, spins around
- one and a half times, and lands on the
- opposite foot, skating backward. It is
- named after its creator, Axel Paulsen. In a
- double Axel, the skater spins two and a half
- times. Today, skaters perform triple Axels.
-
- Loop: In a loop jump, the skater slides
- backward on a curve, takes off on one foot
- (although it may look like both feet are
- together), and lands on the same foot,
- continuing the direction of the curve. In a
- triple loop, the skater spins around three
- times before landing!
